Robot Character Sculpt

This is one of my first projects in Zbrush. Our instructions were to create a metal sculpt while practicing working with booleans.

Reference & Inspiration

With the project constraints being working with metal and booleans, I immediately knew I wanted to work on some sort of android character.

I wanted to make the android character be a "robot assassin", and give them an intimidating and skeletal look.

I was inspired by characters from Overwatch and Apex Legends and found references of similar pieces.

First Pass

began by working with the head or helmet of the character because I was the most unsure on how I wanted this part to look, since I knew I wanted more of a skeletal body.

Next I began by sculpting the torso, arms and legs. A main goal for these sections were to make the metal rods inside of the character feel like they can really move them. In addition, I wanted to make the back have spine like look to it.

The torso and hips took some time to make them feel right. I wanted to have this part play into fantasy/sci-fi elementals and give them abstract facial features.

Final Render

As I began finishing up the character, I had to adjust my proportions from my original block-out so the character could be more lanky. To me this made them feel more intimidating.

I began to work on the material usage for my first time in Zbrush, and wanted to pose the character to allow viewers to come up with their own ideas and stories on who or what the character is.
