Gunslinger
A stylized gunslinger character sculpted from the ground up, focusing on strong silhouette, clear forms, and personality-driven details.
This breakdown covers the full process, from concept and reference to the final sculpt, with attention to costume design, proportions, and hard-surface weapon elements.
Reference & Inspiration

Throughout this project, I gathered a variety of references to shape the character’s direction and visual identity.
My primary goal was to create a dual-wielding Afro-Latina gunslinger, blending sci-fi and vampire-hunter influences into a cohesive design.
Key inspirations included Vayne from League of Legends and Cassidy and Ashe from Overwatch, particularly their silhouettes, attitude, and weapon-focused character themes.
Character design

When building the sculpt, I focus on key features that communicate the character’s purpose and theme, even without textures or materials. The design is driven by strong, readable shapes and clear visual storytelling.
Key elements include:
-
A large hat to create an iconic gunslinger silhouette
-
Professional hunter-inspired attire to suggest experience and practicality
-
Sci-fi elements, such as a mechanical arm, to add contrast and hint at advanced technology
-
A harness with dual holsters to reinforce the character’s dangerous, combat-ready role
By focusing on these core elements during the sculpting phase, the character’s identity and theme remain clear and readable before any textures or materials are applied.

Silhouette

After sculpting, I test the design by blacking out the character into a solid silhouette. By removing all surface detail and focusing only on the overall shape, I can check if the character is still clearly recognizable.
If the silhouette alone communicates the gunslinger’s identity, it confirms that the design is strong, readable, and effective from a distance.
